Sooner or later, you’re bound to encounter some type of problem with your air conditioner. The good news is that many issues can be resolved before you have to call for repairs. Learning about air conditioner troubleshooting will put you a step ahead of common problems, and you may be able to manage some of them on your own.
Tempco technicians are often called to a home for repairs only to find the air conditioner isn’t on. Check if the air conditioner is set to “on” or “auto.” The thermostat should be set a few degrees below the temperature of the room. Check the main electrical panel for a tripped switch or blown fuse. Also check the power switch to the condenser/compressor. If you suspect the thermostat isn’t working properly check the batteries if battery powered. If they are OK turn off the power the thermostat could be faulty and time to call Tempco.
Failure to cool can be caused by several things. See if the thermostat is set properly. If you suspect the air conditioner needs a refrigerant charge, call Tempco for a clean, check and tune up. Inspect the condenser in the outdoor unit as a dirty condenser may impede the system’s ability to cool. Make sure there are no weeds or other debris around the condenser unit.
See if the outside condenser fan is running. If not, check the breakers, the thermostat and the air handler control. Dirty coils, a dirty filter or a malfunctioning blower may halt airflow and cause the system to freeze.
