Sooner or later, you’re bound to encounter some type of problem with your air conditioner. The good news is that many issues can be resolved before you have to call for repairs. Learning about air conditioner troubleshooting will put you a step ahead of common problems, and you may be able to manage some of them on your own.
Our technicians are sometimes called to a home for repairs only to find the air conditioner isn’t on. Check if the air conditioner is set to “on” or “auto.” The thermostat should be set a few degrees below the temperature of the room.
Check the main electrical panel for a tripped switch or blown fuse. If you have power and suspect the thermostat isn’t working properly, you should probably contact us and schedule a service call.
Several things can cause failure to cool. See if the thermostat is set correctly. If you suspect the air conditioner needs a refrigerant charge, give us a call and we will schedule an appointment and check the system. Otherwise, check the condenser coil in the outdoor unit. A dirty condenser may impede the system’s ability to cool. Make sure there are no weeds or other debris around the condenser unit.
See if the outside fan is running. If not, check the breakers, the thermostat and the air handler control, or wires between the thermostat and the air handler. Dirty coils, a dirty filter, or a malfunctioning blower may halt airflow and cause the system to freeze.
We are always here to get things right. If these tips don’t get the system working, give Tempco Heating and Air Conditioning a call at (847) 670-7000.
